If you decide to install a pool heat pump yourself, here are some tips:
1. Suitable location
Choose a location for your heat pump that has good air circulation. Optimum efficiency of a heat pump relies on good airflow. If possible, heat pumps should always be installed outdoors to provide adequate access to fresh air to operate and extract heat.
2. Water flow
Most of our pool heat pumps state the required water flow rate on their specification sheet. If the water flow is too low, the water in the heat pump will overheat and the heat pump will shut down.
Check the water flow rate of the pool pump and filter to make sure the flow rate of the pool heat pump is high enough.
3. Based on
The base of the heat pump should be level and solid. You can use a concrete base, paving slabs laid over sand, or wooden flooring.
The vibrations produced by the heat pump are quite small and will not disturb the paving slabs.
Heat pumps can be installed above or below the water level. The only condition is that the pool circulation pump is powerful enough to provide the water flow required for the heat pump to operate.
4. Electricity supply
Before purchasing a pool heat pump, you should check the operating amps and peak amps of the model you want on the list. Make sure your power supply is sufficient to support the device's operating and startup current.
It is usually recommended to connect special cables to the heat pump electrical equipment and install a special circuit breaker for the heat pump. Most heat pumps will have a higher current demand when starting up. When the compressor starts, this only lasts for a millisecond or so before the current returns to the unit's normal operating current.
5. Pipeline
Adding a heat pump to your existing pool ductwork is easy. Start by checking the size of pipes you have.
