A heat pump is a system consisting of an outdoor unit and an indoor unit connected by two small refrigerant pipes. Heat pumps provide both services and work on the same basic principles. On warm days, the pump works like an air conditioner, extracting heat from indoors and moving it outside. Instead, on cold days, the pump delivers heat from the outdoors into the home.
Air source heat pumps absorb heat from the outdoor air during the heating season and expel the heat outdoors during the summer cooling season. There are two types of air source heat pumps. Working principle
1. The refrigerant coil is located inside the indoor air handling unit.
2. Warm indoor air from the return duct passes through a coil filled with cold liquid refrigerant.
3. The refrigerant absorbs heat energy from the air and evaporates into a warmer gas form, and the now cooled 4. air is piped back into the house.
5. The warm gas refrigerant is then pumped into the compressor in the outdoor unit, bringing it to a high-pressure, high-temperature state before entering the coil in the outdoor unit.
6. The refrigerant is now much warmer than the outside air. As the outdoor fan blows cooler air through the coil, it also absorbs heat energy from the refrigerant, which is then condensed back into cold liquid form before being transferred to the indoor unit. And the cycle continues.
